Clarisse Murekatete is Co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer at CARL Group, a youth-led food processing company specializing in Rwandan sweet potato products. CARL Group was founded in part to address two issues Clarisse feels passionately about: poverty and malnutrition. Orange-fleshed sweet potatoes, abundant in Rwanda, are a rich source of carotenoids and b-carotenes. By creating cakes, biscuits, donuts and crisps from this variety of sweet potato, CARL Group is helping fight vitamin A deficiency, prevalent in children in the region. Under Clarisse’s leadership, CARL Group was the winner of the 2015 DOT Rwanda National Business Plan competition. She participated in the Forum of Agricultural Research in Africa 2016, where her company was selected among the youth in agribusiness exhibitors.
